We Missed a Week

Y ou may have noticed that we missed last week's edition. The Restaurant Review team work very hard to produce a new edition each week and to include at least a restaurant review, a book review or a new-product focus. In addition, of course, we have our 24-hour news feed and almost

constant restaurant listing updates.

We are currently in the process of preparing the pages for Providence Restaurant Week, which we'll be talking more about in a later issue. That effort burnt up most of last week's hours. We were ultimately very pleased with the results, which will be going live shortly. However an office-wide attack of the gastric flu, did a fine job of preventing us from getting our weekly edition out last Thursday. I won't go into the details, but suffice it to say, it was not a fun experience for anyone. In the end we decided that our Mother's Day listing was the most important element of the previous week's issue and we would leave that up for the extra week.

I hope that you didn't even notice the hiatus, but if you did, normal service has been resumed. This is a temporary addition until the usual Thursday publication day, when we will have several great new items available including a review of Jasper White's Summer Shack restaurant and a book review.

New England has been drenched with almost constant rain for the last couple of weeks and most of us have tried to avoid going outside and getting wet. Sunday was the region's busiest day for restaurant bookings on an annual basis. Mother's Day is such a tradition in New England that most restaurants are booked weeks in advance and enjoy a very busy weekend. It's not clear what effect the weather had on the weekend for restaurants, but clearly folks were less keen to get outside than they would normally be.

Ever the optimist, I'm hoping that this is our rainfall for the summer season and we can now get on with enjoying outside dining and pleasant summer evenings free from liquid sunshine. Once again, sorry to have missed an issue, but we are all back our feet and raring to go for this coming week.
